Are you accepting delivery position deposits? Yes. A $1,000 deposit will assure you of a delivery position on the Freedom. This delivery position may be sold, traded, or delayed. Please call or email for complete details.
How much do the planes cost? Pricing will be adjusted ever so often, based on Euros because of the fluctuating US dollar in the European markets. The deposit is 50%, with the remaining 50% due on shipment. Deliveries are expected to be two to three months ARO.
Are kits available? No. Only complete LSA certified airplanes will be offered at this time. Kits will be offered at a later date.
Will other engines be offered? The Colyaer airplanes are flying in Europe with several different engines. The USA kits and LSA certified airplanes will only be offered with the ROTAX 912 ULS as standard. After purchasing an LSA certified airplane, an owner may change engines as desired by recertifying the airplane as an E-LSA, but very little support may be expected from LSA Aero or Colyaer.
Why Decatur, Alabama? The North Alabama region is blessed with many lakes and the Tennessee River. Seaplane flying is very prevalent in the region. The airport is located just 2 miles from the Tennessee River. Airline service is available 15 miles away at the Huntsville Airport. The facilities are located in the southeastern USA, equidistant to the majority of folks in the central and eastern USA. A west coast dealer is planned in the future to support western USA customers.
I have never flown a pusher. Is it very different? Flying a pusher is a little different, but nothing a good checkout won't prepare you for. Many popular and successful seaplanes are pushers, ie the Lake, SeaBee, Colonial Skimmer, SeaRey, Piaggio. The view is fantastic. Being forward of the CG feels a little strange at first for pilots used to the Cessna/Piper type airplanes.
I have never flown a seaplane. What is the best approach? The GANNET and FREEDOM are very good trainers. Anyone flying under the Sport Pilot regulations will only require training and a flight check by a Flight Instructor to fly the seaplane. We really recommend a seaplane rating at a school such as Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Winter Haven, Florida to be thoroughly versed in water operations. This training is typically 2 days and around $1,000.
